Hi, when I got my dell pc I had to use the program in the accessories menu to make the XP disk, like most people with Dell pc's.
But when I clicked install by mistake it asked for my product key. I had one of these on windows 98, it came on the front of that thick white book. But i cannot remember getting one of these with the dell.
Is this normal, as i am concerned if i ever have to reinstall windows...
There should be a sticker on the PC case that has the product key. Check the case, I'm not sure if it's on the back or side. Seems like it varies by model.

There's a small Genuine Windows sticker on the bottom of laptops and on the side of towers that has your product key for XP. Get a magnifier and copy it down for future reference & keep it with your Windows cd. Be sure not to confuse the 25 letters and numbers--letter O for the number zero, B for an 8, etc.
