Question about an update

I just got this message that says I need to install an "urgent" update. Its called Dell Inspiron 3647/3847 System BIOS. Looking at the specs it says it was from February. Why am I getting it now in June if its so urgent? Plus when Dell does a daily scan of my computer it says "You are up to date". What gives?

I use Windows 10.

There have been some issues about these auto updates, especially BIOS updates.

First thing check that you really need it.  It may have already installed.

If not installed, I would manually download the BIOS update and apply it as this seems to be the safest method.

The free SPECCY program will profile your PC and show what the BIOS level is.

As with any free program, watch for any unwanted add on programs, when you run the program installer.

One or two months ago I got a problem. When my laptop stopped charging. But when I updated BIOS, the problem was solved. I suggested you to do it.

Don't mean to revive this thread but everyday I'm getting pestered by update notices. Do I really need to update? I have a A08 driver and it keeps telling me to update to A10. Everyday I get this

Some technician told me on Facebook that damage might occur with the update which is why I'm reluctant to do it. Do I really need the update. Isn't A08 good enough?

Generally I say BIOS updates are not needed unless it fixes a problem you have or adds support for new hardware you want to use.

But, in this case based on what the update does I say you should do it.

    Fixes & Enhancements

    Fixes
    - Updated CPU microcode to address security advisory Intel Security Advisory Intel-sa-00115 (cve-2018-3639 & cve-2018-3640).

However, I would manually download the update and install it rather than let the Dell support program do it.

Is there a way I could restore my computer to before the update if something goes wrong? I tell you the Dell people are making me nervous at Facebook talking about Motherboard damage and all that.

If your system is in a working condition, follow these steps to identify if your Dell PC supports BIOS recovery:

    1. Restart the PC.

    2. Press the F2 key on the keyboard several times until the PC enters the BIOS setup.

    3. If you find the option BIOS Recovery from Hard Drive in the BIOS setup, your Dell PC supports BIOS recovery 2.

    4. If BIOS Recovery from HDD is enabled and there is a BIOS Auto-Recovery field settable in the BIOS setup, your Dell PC support BIOS recovery 3
