Quickset

Can anyone advise the purpose/functionality of the quickset utility  (indicated by black icon with "9" inside it on the taskbar?  Where can I find any Dell info about it (I tried Dell tech support twice but no one could give me an answer).  I get no response when I click/double click on the icon.   Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the response--I clicked, double clicked and right-clicked the icon(on separate attempts) but got no response either time.   Can't really decide what's supposed to happen since all other icons give an explanatory indication but nothing indicated when I hover over this icon?  Any suggestions?

Dell™ QuickSet provides you with easy access to configure or view the following types of settings:

    • Network connectivity
    • Power management
    • Display
    • System information

Depending on what you want to do in Dell™ QuickSet, you can start it by either clicking, double-clicking, or right-clicking the QuickSet icon in the Microsoft® Windows® taskbar. The taskbar is located in the lower-right corner of your screen. For more information about QuickSet, right-click the QuickSet icon and select Help.

Hmmm....could be a broken shortcut. See if you can find the Quickset utility .exe on your drive and try launching it that way, just to see if it works at all.

You may have to uninstall it in Add/Remove Programs control panel, reboot, and reinstall it. You should be able to find a download of the latest version on Dell's support site.

Hi Nader  --  the QuickSet icon is still on my taskbar but apparently has no function that I can determine. I have right/left clicked and double clicked with no response. I guess I just work around whatever purpose it's supposed to have since everything else seems to be functioning ok. Enjoy your new XPS !

You  may need to uninstall and reinstall QuickSet.  Look in Add/Remove Programs control panel for a way to uninstall it.

There's a Dell QuickSet Removal Tool for 32-bit Vista, which should probably work on 32-bit Win 7, but I don't see a similar tool for 64-bit Win 7.

Either way, manually set a system restore point before you attempt to remove it. After it's gone, you should be able to download and install this

Win 7 64-bit version (assuming you have Win 7 64-bit)

    Hi,

I am trying to install the Dell Quickset utility on my Studio 1737 (win7 x64) to restore the keyboard backlight functionality.

When i try to run the installer i get a message saying "this is not a supported system" I tried running from the launcher, and also the quickset64 and quickset32 individual installer packages. Same message from all 3. Is there some prerequisite that i need and am unaware of?

Ok so I've been doing some searching and I know what quickset does but my problem is that every time I turn on my laptop it says that my theme has been switched to basic because of the quickset program and I was wondering if there is a way to counter that.

    Hi Cody82 / rrtech10

Quickset could not be a problem in terms of changing the theme to default. However if you are getting a message on the screen with regards to the quickset changing the screen resolution , please capture the screen shot of the error and post it, so that we can research on the issue.

The problem could be with screen resolution, performance settings, Aero default theme.

    Check this link: http://www.ehow.com/info_12214657_windows-keeps-changing-back-theme-after-restarting.html

Perform the troubleshooting steps provided in the link above to fix the problem.

    To rrtech10

Try reinstalling the quickset drivers. To uninstall the quickset go to “Programs and Features” window, right click “Quickset64”, click “Change/Uninstall”.

    4)       To install the quickset driver follow the below steps:

    5)       Click the link above

    6)       Select Download file.

    7)       Once the download is completed, run the driver file.

    8)       Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.

    9)       Restart the computer.

    Please check and reply.
