Reinstalling XP Pro and "No Hard Disk Found" problem
Hopefully someone can help me out with this. I recently decided to install a fresh copy of XP on my computer. It is a Dell Deminsion 8400, P4 3 Ghz no floppy drive, that I bought about 4 years ago. The problem that i am having is that when I tried to install the fresh copy of XP, I get an error saying that No hard disk was found. After reading through several posts I found out that this seems to be a common problem, that the drivers for the SATA drive are not there. Seems the fix is to load them on a floppy and use F6 at start up to load the drivers. Here are the problems that I am having. I salvaged a floppy drive from an old machine and installed it. Now I just dont know what drivers are needed to get the process up and running. I also found a couple of how to's on slip streaming, but I really dont want to get into that unless I have to. Where do I find the necessary drivers? Does anyone know if later releases of XP have the drivers built into them? I am concidering buying a copy of XP Pro with either sp 2 or sp 3 already on it.
I also tried to go into BIOS and change the drive settings to "Combination." This allowed me to install XP, but not without problems. A lot of the devices are now unoperable and sometimes when it boots error messages come up. I tried to change the ettings back to original, but then it wont boot.
What is the easiest way to fix this problem. Surely there is a simple solution that I just have not found yet.

thanks, but still not working. I copied them over, unzipped and added them to a floppy, changed settings to AHCI and still no good. When it comes to the part where it asks to push F6, I push it and it does nothing. later in the installation it asks to press S to specify additional SCSI adapters. I tried that and it gives men error saying no txt.setup.oem could be found.
I can set it to "Combination" and it will let me continue the install. what happend if I leave it set that way and continue to run it. The only thing with that is upon start up I get a black screen that gives me the option to start in safe mode and a couple of other options. I just highlight start nomal and go from there. But its quite annoying.

If you are not using RAID, enter the setup, scroll down to drives, press Enter or + to expand the drive menu then down to "SATA Operation", press Enter.
Change the SATA operation mode to "RAID Autodetect/ATA" press ESC to save and exit the BIOS.
Then XP should install without a problem.

Here is the SATA driver you need to install at the F6 screen. Download F6FLPY32_STOR_5.5.0.1035_PV.ZIP. It is the Intel driver and will work fine. Then unzip, and put on a floppy. Be sure to set Bios RAID Autodetect/AHCI, or Raid on.
