reinstalling XP

I have a dell latitude which I purchased through our institution.  Before it got to me, some kind soul in IS installed Windows 2000.  I have the disc that came with the instrument for "reinstallation".  I would like to reinstall XP and get rid of 2000.  Obviously I'd back up everything I needed.  Can I do this?  How?

If the reinstallation disc is Windows XP and you have a COA on the bottom of the notebook for XP, you can boot from the XP CD, delete partitions and recreate the ones you want, format and install XP . . Win200 will be gone.

This is a great guide for reinstalling on a Dell:  http://www.djdenham.com/Install%20Procedures.htm
