Remote printing with Windows XP

Have a new 1700 laser printer hooked to desktop in my home.  When remotely accessing another desktop and trying to print to the new 1700 printer in my home it can't see it.  When I had my old HP hooked up there was no problem.  The new 1700 Dell is cabled to the same port (parallel).
 
Anyone know how to remedy this problem?

    Have you set the new printer up as 'shared'?

    Go to Start > Printers & Faxes.  Right click on the printer and select sharing from the drop-down menu.

    I installed the drivers and utilities disk provided with the printer.  I don't recall answering that question during setup? 
     
    Since your reply, I went to "control panel" "printers" and then "properties" to check if shared and can't see where I can change it if it's not shared.  Do I need to re-install or is there a way to check and see if it's shared?

    When I right click on the printer there is no shared option offered.  By the way, my old HP printer is the same way, there is no shared option offered when I right click on it and it always worked.

    Hi,

    Go to Control Panel and select "Classic View". Dbl click "Network Connections" and right click "Local Area Connection" and select "Properties". Check if "File and Printer sharing" is enabled.

    Can you actually connect to the machine remotely?  Forget the printer for the moment.

    Yes I can connect remotely, to other computers that is.  I can't connect from a remote computer to my desktop because I'm not using XP Pro.  But that's never been a problem.
     
      It's been suggested by a friend that it's all about the remote software.  When remote connection is started it usually recognizes all printers hooked to the local computer but is not seeing the new Dell yet?  If this is true how do I get remote connection software to see the printer?  I've restarted, etc.

    The remotes I'm connecting to are using XP Pro.  I'm using Windows 98, but again, that has not been a problem in the past.  Although, in the morning I'm going to attach the printer to my laptop which uses XP Home edition to see if that makes a difference.
