Slow running

My computer is running really slow.  All programs are coming up really slow.  I am not sure what is going on.  I have done several virus scans and nothing comes back.  What I think I am going to have to do is blow away Windows, but I don't know how to do this.  Can anyone help?

Thanks

you might can pull up the task manager, looking under "processes", to see if you have a program/process hanging, which is causing your computer to run slow.. there are instructions for reinstalling windows xp in dell support/solutions/reinstall guide..

When is the last time you did a disk defrag?  A fragmented hard drive can contribute to a slow running PC.

Also do a spyware scan and cleanup with one of the spyware tools such as AdAware (what I use) or SpyBot.

Do you have any file sharing (e.g. KaZaa) programs running? that can be a major issue with how the PC runs.

    Many different things to consider.

Download SISSOFT SANDRa, and run the complete set of tests. It will tell you what processes you can disable.
