I'm running Win XP Pro on a new Insp 9100, hardware is solid no problems.  However, I've been attempting to do a clean install to recover HDD memory lost from the "hidden partition" as a result I've been getting problems after I load NIS 04 and its updates.  I have tried loading everything first then loading NIS and loading just the OS then NIS & updates or OS first with all update except SP2 then all of NIS & updates.  No matter which way I do it as soon as the NIS updates load I get problems like the system search engine wont work, can't load additional programs, mission tray icons, and some program options have been changed.  My XP Pro copy seems stable by itself, from this experience and research here and on the web I have found that NIS 04 has many issues.  Needless to say I am torqued for spending the money on something that doesn't look like it will work.  What I'm searching for is either the holy grail on how I can make NIS 04 play well with my OS and system or serious recommendations on other security suites that work.  I want a suite that first will work with XP Pro and also covers AV, FW, personal security, e-mail, and as a plus has parental controls.

 

FYI - I run NIS 04 on my DT with XP Home with none of these problems, which only adds to my frustration because I don't know if its something I'm doing wrong with the install???

 

I have heard that NIS 05 is better build and will work with Dell system and OS - Yes / No?

 

The other suites I have reviewed that look promising are:

McAfee - Yes / No?

Zone Alarm - Yes / No?
