streaming mp3 with Windows media player

In the past, if I clicked on an http link for an mp3 the file would stream in Windows media player with a buffer. Now a dialog box pops up and downloads the entire file before playing it. How can I get it back to streaming/buffer mode? I have mp3 associated with Wmp. I have wmp 11 3.o kb dsl dell xps with vista Thank you for your time -M

    Try this

Open Media Player, Go to tools/options/Network Tab, be sure all the protocol's are ticked, "use ports" is Unticked.

Then on the same tab under streaming proxy settings, HTTP should be set to "Browser" proxy, if it is not click  "configure" and tick the radio button "use proxy settings of the web browser", hit OK OK.

Sometimes it can be the way a webpage is built, and will not allow for streaming.

Also if the file association has been changed for that particular file format, can cause this also.

Flag + E and go to Tools/Folder Options/File types, find mp3 (or whatever it is) in the list and highlight it, now in the lower part it should say "Opens with"  Windows media player, if it does not hit the change button, find WMP in the list highlight it, tick the box "Always use...."  then
    OK, OK.

Actually your first suggestion did work after I restarted the computer, but not before. Either way, it's working now. Thank you very much for helping me out! -Mike
