Stuttering...

Any time my "Local Area Connection" is enabled, I get this 'stuttering' in games and stuff. Every second or so at a set interval a frame displays a little longer than it should, completely ruining the smoothness of my games. It happens in everything, from games to screensavers to WMP fullscreen visualizations. I don't have any background programs running or anything and my drivers are up-to-date. I've had this problem awhile now and asked tech support, friends, and various religious icons for help but can't solve the problem. Someone PLEASE HELP!

I'm running Windows XP on a P4 2.53Ghz w/ 256MB DDRRAM and a GeForce 4 Ti4600. I can give more info if needed, just help me get rid of this problem...

Thanks

Are you running an antivirus program while playing the games ? If so...disable it and see if the problem still occurs.

I already disable the antivirus software (Norton) when I play games...

OK, apparently specifying what connection type I use (10Mbps) instead of turning on "Auto Sense" fixes the problem.

I'm just a little skeptical because that seemed WAY too easy...

Thanks Khaos84!   I can't wait to try this tonight.... This has bugged me for a long time (flying an airplane in BF1942 is not very realistic when the your surroundings stutter... even if its subtle).  How did you come about this solution?

    Update:

For the first time since I've owned this computer (two years in June) it is stutter free! Khaos84, you rock... everything's smooth as a babies bottom. Not sure why I've never seen this simple fix before (or why it happens on my 8200 and not other computers).Oh well, back to my new improved gaming...

Yeah, go to start, 'connect to,' 'show all connections,' then right click on the connection and go to 'properties.' Click on 'configure,' go to the 'advanced' tab, and from there you can change the value. Mine is set to 10 Mbps, the speed of my network (not sure how common that is). Just so long as it's not autochecking, I'm pretty sure you won't get that stuttering.

I bet it's a lot of people (if not all who are on the default settings). You can still play everything just fine but I guess we're just really picky about smooth frame rates.

I asked around on the forum when I got my 8200 over a year ago and no one could help me (I just got the usual stuff about turning off background programs and virus protection). Even the customer service number didn't help me. I was just messing around with stuff in a desperate attempt to fix the stuttering and actually found the solution... I wonder how many people have this problem (whether they realize it or not).
