Thankyou for your post.

It's almost 2 am and the System Restore still won't work. I did everything that they said on the Microsoft webpage....trying to restore in safe mode didn't work.

I did a sfc with my WindowsXP disc and I scanned my computer.....and it still doesn't work.

I also noticed that that all my name/passwords are not coming up any more...usually I just click in the box and they pop up.

If anyone has any other suggestions, please let me know.

I think the System Restore is very important and would really hate to lose it.

Go to Start|Control Panel|System|System Restore tab. Check the box to disable system restore on all drives. Reboot, then go back and uncheck that box. Create a restore point manually then see if you can restore to it.

I was really afraid to get rid of all my restore points but it worked and I am so glad.

Now I just have to figure out why my name/passwords don't appear any more when I am filling out a form...but that's only little stuff...you fixed the main problem...and I really appreciate it.

As preventive maintenance you may want to make a manual restore point  on a weekly basis. This will verify that SR is still working and up to the job should you need it.

My autocomplete was on...but I erased everything and restarted my computer and turned it back on....so hopefully it will start working...although I don't see it working yet.

That is a good idea about making my own manual restores.....I actually restore it myself....after defrag and cleaning up ...about once a month...but maybe I will start doing it on a weekly basis.

In Internet Explorer go to Tools|Internet Options|Content tab. Click the "Autocomplete" button and make sure that feature is set to remember User Names and Passwords on Forms.

From Windows XP Inside Out: System Restore creates restore points at regular intervals, regardless of user activity: By default, System Restore creates a restore point every 24 hours if you leave your computer on. If you shut down your computer, the System Restore service creates a new restore point when you restart, if the most recent restore point was more than 24 hours ago.

Denny is the resident expert on this and many other bulletin boards so you should definitely adhere to everything he suggests. That said, I've seen too many people on this board who can't use SR when they really need it. Regular checkups as I've suggested may well catch a problem with SR before it's needed. It's up to the individual.
