I can't get system restore to restore. Everytime I pick a bold date the system goes through the restart but then I get a message that it could not restore that date. I've tried
several dates with the same response. I even tried in the safe mode and I turned off all of norton utilities. I want to restore because I downloaded Internet Explorer 7 beta
and it messed up my online banking. Is there a way to get back to Explorer 6? Thanks,
Go to Start|Control Panel|Add or Remove Programs and uninstall IE7 beta. IE6 will immediately take over as your browser.
The problem with system restore is corrupted restore points. Go to Start|Control Panel|System|System Restore tab and disable system restore. Reboot, then return and enable restore again. Your corrupted data will have been purged and the feature should work properly again.
Does the same thing apply with all my problems with norton? I installed that last weekend, uninstalled it and had tons of problems with my desktop. I tried to do system restore but it doesn't work.
I did create my own restore point. I had done one before and was successful in the past. However, this time it wasn't. That's why I am worried why it wasn't working this time. Ever since I installed Norton, it really messed my desktop up. I should have been more careful. I knew I was not supposed to run two virus programs at the same time-I just got confused and thought that Norton had to be used with the wireless network/software in order to be protected! Um, no! As soon as I found that out, I uninstalled Norton quickly but that caused all the problems! Dell Support says there are no problems on my computer but I am unable to do many things. Hmmm...I will try to do the few things suggested first then will come back and ask more quetions! Thanks, Dyana.
make sure you guys are creating your own system retore points regularly, then when you run system restore it should work with no problems. the other points were created automatically and they never seem to be too reliable. it's obvious how to create a restore point, when you open up system restore, just select creat restore point instead. it will take about 5 seconds.
to the other guy, no problem. to lake guy, i have some more advice. first of all, don't just create one restore point one time, if you're going to make big changes to your account make a couple at different times. also, don't use Norton. I was just at a national leadership conference on technology and i was informed that Norton stops about 10% of viruses. the best thing i've done is turning on your windows firewall and downloading and installing AVG Free and Spybot Search and Destroy. Jest google them and you'll get them. They work great and even notify you when you're hit with a virus for a change.
