Can someone tell me how to get a product key (pk). I purchased DME250,E6400,2.13GHZ,250GB in Jan with Express upgrade to Vista Home Premium, the disks arive; but no pk, one is upgrade assist, and the other is vista express upgrade. I spent 2 hours on phone talking to tech, and they DO NOT KNOW.
The product key is on the back of the cardboard that the discs are shrink wrapped to. I hope you still have it. ( Personally, I don't think that is a very smart place to put the product key. It was probably just easier for them, unfortunately more headaches for us!)
It is obvious the product key is there, geez. There was a BIG RED star on a sticker, The OEM COA sticker with the key, and also a note with a warning not to throw it away...
Nothing is idiot proof. Really where would you put the sticker? On the DVD Sleeve right. 50 dollars says somebody would would throw that away too... and then complain because they put it there.
I thought for any issues relating to delivery of the upgrade you'd be contacting them at
https://www.dellvistaupgrade.com/contactus.aspx and not tech support. Try the dellvistaupgrade contact info and see if you have any more luck.
IT IS ON THE CARDBOARD THE DISKS WHERE SHRINK WRAPPED TOO. Can it not be more clear than that. One would have to be blind not to see it with the BIG red star on the cardboard as well.
Geek:Since I am Old, but NOT blind, there is NO Product Key on the cd sleeve, where They normaly are.
I was just extending what the prior poster stated about it being on the cardboard insert that the package was shrink wrapped to. The one with the Big Red Star, and warning sticker about Not Throwing it Out. I'm old too and half blind, I saw it.
The point I was making was
No Matter Where they Put The Sticker somebody would throw it away as you obviously have. If not you it would have been someone else.
Is the COA removable from the cardboard so it can be placed on the computer?
Yes,
That is required by the microsoft EULA to stick the COA on the original PC.
Just be very careful to not tear the COA. I used a razor blade to catch the edge and peel it up and off the plastic backing that is stuck to the card board.
I take it you have never read the EULA for OEM System Builders?
The OEM Software EULA States:
7. CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY (COA) LABEL/PROOF OF LICENSE (POL) LABEL. If the individual software license includes a COA or POL label, the system builder who installs the individual software license must attach the COA or POL label, as applicable, to the outside of the fully assembled computer system case in an easily accessible location.
Here is the link on Microsofts site for your edification.
