Vista Sound Problem - HELP!!!

I have a Inspiron E1505 Laptop and I recently upgraded to Vista. The speakers no longer work, and I've updated the driver and tried a few other types of drivers that didn't work. I don't know what to try next. Is anybody having the same problem? Thanks

and this is the driver you tried?  Maybe make sure you have latest bios and check for any mutes for sound.

I thought I had the same problem...then went to Control Panel, Hardware and Sound, Sound, Manage Audio Devices and selected "Speakers" instead of the Digital Output Device...voila...sound's back!

Went through the same scenario just today - reinstalling over the existing driver didn't seem to work, as the posters have noted. What corrected the issue for me was to go to Control Panel - Uninstall a Program - then select the original Audio driver from the list and uninstall it. Once it has been removed, go ahead and reinstall the driver (note here - the Zip file on my drivers CD was corrupted and didn't install correctly, but downloading the file from Dell's Support site worked properly). You should see a command window open and a message within saying that it is Restarting Audio Services. Once this occurs, you should see the little speaker icon next to the time lose the red "X", and display the )) that indicates working audio. Restart the system when prompted, and your audio should work properly once again.
Hope this helps some other folks!

Yahoooooooo!!! I finally got it work. I did what you said to do Bob and when I uninstalled it I saw that I had another sound program too...some advanced audio program that I got ordered the laptop. I guess that wasn't up to date, deleting it made the sound work. Thanks again.

After the upgrade, just installing new drivers over the old ones will not work. First, you need to uninstall the existing sound driver that is on the computer. Then reboot. Then, install the new driver (make sure you get the correct driver from Dell by using your Service Tag to correctly identify your system). That is what corrected the missing audio after OS upgrade problem for me. Good Luck!

I am having similar problems to the one that you seemed to know how to fix.  My issue is that after the upgrade (Vista Home Premium to Vista Ultimate) I lost my audio.  The little red x when highlighted says noaudio output device installed.  The same message is listed when I go to control panel/sound.  Do you have a suggestion for me?  I would reallu appreciate help.  I can be e mailed at bbsstmez@juno.com/  Thanks
