Win XP SP2 & GeForce 2Go drivers on Inspiron 8100
Hello all,
I have a three year old Inspiron 8100 notebook with the GeForce 2 Go 32Mb video card and the latest Dell drivers (v44.82).
I have recently installed Service Pack 2 for Windows XP Professional and have been having problems specifically with the Start Menu & the task bar. Every so often, for no apparent reason the left pane of the Start Menu will turn black. Then if I click on any of the links in the right pane, such as the Run command, I get a spurious message saying 'The shortcut cannot be created there, do I want to put it on the desktop?'. Also if I right click on the Task Bar the context menu no longer has the 'Toolbars' sub menu available. The only way to get out of this situation is to re-boot the computer at which point all my customised Toolbars, in the Task Bar disappear.
On posting this same problem on the Microsoft Newsgroups I was informed that it was a problem with the nVidia video drivers and that I needed to get an updated driver for my video adaptor. On checking the Dell website for updated drivers for my system (using my Service Tag) I found that I already have the latest Dell drivers (v.6.14.10.4482 (A18)). But according to the nVidia website only drivers of version 61.77 or later are Win XP SP2 compatible! The latest generic drivers on the nVidia site are version 66.93!
Can anyone tell me if these generic drivers will work with my GeForce 2Go adaptor, and if not where I can get nVidia drivers that are compatible with Win XP SP2.
Does anyone know if Dell is going to release updated video drivers for the GeForce 2Go adaptor in the Inspiron 8100 that are SP2 compatible?
I really need to sort this problem out as my system is almost unusable in it's present state.
