Windows XP Repair

How can I do a XP Windows Repair (not a reinstall) safely ?  Are there any instructions to help  do this?

The XP disk I have is SP2, but I am on SP3...will this be an issue?

The reason I need to do this is because of the errors I am finding below.   I am getting errors for registry queries not being loaded,  then it is followed by applications timing out  and not starting at all - or if they are running, they hang.:emotion-40:

    Microsoft Repair Instructions

I don't think you will have a problem with the SP2 disc but you will probably have to reinstall SP3 after the repair is completed.

Thanks for the reply.   I tried a Windows Install Repair.  It did not help and probably made matters worse.

I have now installed SP3 and now have other errors in the System Event Log log, so I am opening a new post.

I responded to your other post.   Sometimes a Repair will not fix things, depending on what the original problems are.  In that case it will take a complete reinstall to get everything working properly.

A complete reinstall is reformat the hard drive and reinstall.  The reinstall sequence required on most Dell's is (1) Install Windows (2) On applicable systems install the Dell Desktop or Laptop System Software (3) Install motherboard chipset drivers (4) Install device drivers including video, sound, ethernet, etc.
