XP problem, I think

When I go to RUN: CMD, I get the black screen and when I enter either tracert, ipconfig, or ping, I get a message as follows: 'ping' (or ipconfig, or tracert) is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. Any ideas as to what is wrong?

    guionista,

There may be a problem with your Path statement. Go to Start|Control Panel|System|Advanced tab. Click the "Environmental variables" button and ensure that the path statement includes C:\WINDOWS\system32.

Alternatively, at the command prompt enter CD C:\WINDOWS\system32 and at the C:\WINDOWS\system32> prompt enter the commands.
