XP Repair help

Ok, I've had this problem for a while now and it's driving me nuts. IE won't load Yahoo pages (namely graphics) correctly, and my browsers (IE 6 and Mozilla) generally slow. I've done all the easy stuff (clearing cache, deleting temp files, checked DSL connection, downloaded all necessary Windows Updates) My download speed is slower as well, but still maintains DL speeds of 80 kb/s, so connection speed can't be the cause. I've been told that a good idea might be to just re-install/repair XP, but I've never done it before and I'm kinda nervous. So, I have a couple questions about an XP repair, and if somebody could answer any of 'em, my life would be a lot less stressful =)

1) Can you use any XP recovery CD? (because I'm not sure I can find the one that came with my DELL, but I have one from a previous computer...if not, any suggestions would help)

2) Which files does an XP repair actually delete? (will I have to backup all of my programs, mp3s, documents, digital pictures, e-mails...things like that)

3) Are there any "side-effects" or possible backfires to doing an XP repair?

Thanks for reading, any and all support will be most welcome.

    Bdawg3344,

    1) Can you use any XP recovery CD? (because I'm not sure I can find the one that came with my DELL, but I have one from a previous computer...if not, any suggestions would help)   The repair reinstall procedure does not prompt for a Product ID so any XP CD should be able to be used.

    2) Which files does an XP repair actually delete? (will I have to backup all of my programs, mp3s, documents, digital pictures, e-mails...things like that)   The repair only repairs XP files. It should not disturb your data. Conservative advice recommends backing them up, but it is not strictly necessary as a normal repair reinstall will leave them alone.

    3) Are there any "side-effects" or possible backfires to doing an XP repair?   The only side effect is that you will have to reinstall all the Windows Updates you have installed since receiving the computer, as the reinstall will remove them.

Thank you very much for the quick reply. I guess I'll try a repair and let you know how it goes. Thanks again, and I'll be back if I have any more questions =)
