XP SP2 makes laptop crawl

I've tried several times over the last year to update to SP2 using windows update.  Each time I do this, my Inspiron 1150 crawls soooo slowly I can't do anything.  I currently have 384 MB or RAM.  Would a RAM upgrade make a difference?  Anybody else experience this problem?  How was it solved?

Much appreciated.

More RAM will always help, but that problem is usually caused by installing SP2 on a dirty system.  You need the system to be squeeky clean prior to installing SP2.

    See these for more:

There can be conficts between some of the Security software and SP2 . . You can download and install the newest versions to fix that.

Also, look in the Drivers and Downloads at the left panel of this page and navigate to your model to see if there are any AP2 patches for your pc.

Most of the installation problems associated with SP2 have been attributed to pre-existing malware issues unknown to the owner.
