Have you looked in  All Programs>Start Up. If you find any there you can right click on them and delete.

I have had a look in All Programms>Start Up and I have the following:

    Adobe Reader Speed Launcher
    Logitech desktop Messenger
OneNote 2007 Screen Clipper & Launcher

If I delete these will it fix the problem or create other problems??

    Thanks for your help,FF.

Does it say what it wants to install?

If this just started, do a System Restore to latest date available when it was ok.
    click start>help&support
    click "undo changes..."
Follow prompts and pick latest date available before this problem started. Personal files will be ok, but any XP updates or other software originally installed after the date used for the restore will have to be reinstalled.

If that doesn't help, search these forums. Someone else posted similar problem in last week or 2. If I remember correctly, the fix required editing the registry. That's something to be done with knowledge and caution because a mistake editing the registry can make your system unusable.

Try the System Restore, as I suggested in my previous post.

No, it never says what it wants to install, a dialogue box comes up saying:-

     "Windows Installer" "Preparing To Install"

I'm not competent enough to muck around with registry keys, I will try a forum search for more info.
