XPS 8930, Bluetooth stopped working

Yesterday everything worked in my new Dell XPS8930.  Today Bluetooth is showing as not available.  I'm showing an unknown USB Device in device manager.  I've tried turning off the computer, unplugging and hitting the power button for 10 seconds then removing the device and rebooting after scanning for new hardware.  The bug comes back.  I've tried updating drivers but those also appear to be up to date.  How can I reset and reenable Bluetooth?

@CSMaderer  Which BT do you have, Qualcomm or Killer or Intel, and is it listed in Device Manager? If BT not  listed, is WiFi card listed and still working? (They're both on same physical card.)

Not sure I understand... " hitting the power button for 10 seconds then removing the device and rebooting after scanning for new hardware." How do you remove the device after "hitting power button..."? Did you do a reboot in between? And did you unplug the power cord from PC, rather than just from the wall?

You should uninstall the "Unknown" device(s) before you power off, etc. And be sure to set Device Manager to "Show hidden devices", and uninstall any "Unknown" that shows up there too.

you may need to do a fresh clean install of Windows 10 so the system can recognize the BT device properly again.

Thanks I got it to work by doing the above but it didn't work the FIRST time I did it... I had to repeat.  NO the card wasn't listed in Device manager when it wasn't working.

@CSMaderer  Glad you got it to work.

And yes, sometimes it does take repeating the same thing twice to get BT working again. It's like you have to hit Windows with a hammer to make it pay attention...

I just wanted to say that this fixed it for me as well.  I removed the unknown device that failed with a weird error, shutdown, unplugged the power to the machine for 15 seconds.  After I powered it back up bluetooth is there and working just fine.

I never needed bluetooth until I bought a remote bluetooth mouse and keyboard. I've experienced intermittent loss of bluetooth on my XPS8930 every few days since. I even replaced the Qualcomm QCA9377 card but have found nothing to fix it permanently. The only temporary fix I have found is shutting down, removing the power card and holding the power button in for 60 seconds before restarting. This restores bluetooth for a day or two.

@Fin_ders  - Does the BT card disappear from Device Manager when you lose BT? Do you see any "Unknown" devices listed in Device Manager when you lose BT? Any Unknown devices should be right-clicked and uninstalled. Then click Action>Scan for hardware changes and see if the BT card reappears.

Could also be a Power settings issue:
In Device Manager, double-click the entry for your BT card and click the Power Management tab, if it has one. Uncheck the box "Allow PC to turn off.."

Now uncheck the same box for your WiFi network adapter which I assume is on the same card as BT.  Then do the same thing for each USB entry that has a Power Management tab. Exit Device Manager when done.

Next, open the Windows Power & Sleep screen. Click Additional Power Settings. On next screen, identify the active Power plan and click Change Plan Settings. On next screen, click Change Advanced Power Settings.

On that last screen, disable Hibernation, Hybrid Sleep, USB Selective Suspend, and PCI Express Link State Management. Be sure to save the changes to the Power plan and then reboot.

    See if that helps...

Thanks RoHe, no unknown USB but the power settings did need disabling. Hope that solves the problem.

Pretty sure I had disabled them before when I had problems with the Killer Ethernet Controller. Perhaps updating to Windows 11 reset them?
