@uwe-dembski The drivers may not be compatible because you don't have the hardware or for some reason the driver does not apply to your system. There are two things you should do, first, you should enter your Service Tag when looking for drivers, and second, you should click on the 'View full driver details' link and look at the 'Compatible Systems', 'Supported Operating Systems', and 'Applies to" links.
@uwe-dembski The driver page says it's Intel Rapid Storage Technology application 18.1.1011.0, A12 but the actual file name to be downloaded is A12_01.EXE. So it may only be one driver that's a problem.
Download it again and try installing again. This time, right-click the downloaded file name and Run as administrator.
FWIW, Intel driver updates sometimes give an error message when the version being installed is the same version as the one that's already running, rather than saying "version already installed" or something similar. Don't know if that's the issue here...

Have you tried downloading and installing that same update from Dell's German support page for XPS 8940? CAVEAT: I have no idea if that will make any difference.
I pinged my Dell tech contacts and provided the link to this thread. So they should look into it...
