I have a new XPS13 and need to connect to my Canon Ixus 130 camera. I'm afraid I don't know the names of the ports to search for an appropriate cable. Please help.
I attend the archives and take hundreds of photos of probates etc for others so I can't use the camera in the pc (limp page clutched by clunky fingers)

@RozzieLee As an example of the products I referred to above, this one gives you an SD memory card reader, USB-A ports, a USB-C data port, an HDMI output to connect to displays/TVs, and a USB-C power passthrough port so that you could connect your laptop charger to in order to run all of that functionality through a single port on your laptop. Given that your laptop only has two USB-C ports, having access to other port types like USB-A and HDMI and consolidating multiple functions onto a single port can be quite useful. There are lots of these on the market offering various combinations of functions. Some may add Ethernet or a second video output to run dual displays, or may lack certain ports found on the one I linked. It depends on what ports you need and what you want to spend. There are also basic SD card readers that plug into a USB-C port if that’s all you need, but if you then also have your charger connected to the other port on your laptop, you won’t be able to connect anything else, such as another USB device or an external display.
Also note that with the USB-C power passthrough port, you wouldn’t want to use the XPS 13’s own charger through that because the hub will skim some power to run itself in that scenario rather than drawing from the system, so your system will start earning about a low wattage power source. You’d either want to keep the charger directly connected to the laptop or else get a higher wattage charger than can provide the XPS 13’s 45W of power even after the hub has reserved some power for itself. A 60W USB-C charger would do nicely if you want to run power through the hub in order to keep your system’s second USB-C port free for something else.

@RozzieLee The answer above is correct, although that’s not a cable you’d likely find on short notice if ever needed. Another option you might want to consider would be a multi-purpose USB-C hub that would give you USB-A “regular USB” ports and an SD card reader. Mini-USB to USB-A cables are easier to find in a pinch, and the SD card reader would give you the option of just removing the memory card from the camera and connecting it directly. That will avoid draining your camera battery AND it’s likely to result in MUCH faster transfers, since the camera only supports USB 2.0, while modern card readers would support USB 3.x and modern memory cards can take advantage of speeds above USB 2.0.
