Xps 13 reporting fan failed after replacement

I have a 2019 xps 13 7390 10th gen core i7.

A few weeks ago the fan started making a zipping noise.

Last week I fitted an official replacement which in the form of two fans welded to a heatsink.

With the case off, I can see both fans spin. Problem is, on boot I’m told that the processor fan has failed? The boot diagnostics also report that the graphics fan is ok. However when I run test for cpu fan it fails.

The core temps seem to be ok. They hover around 50c when idling and occasionally hit the 100c limit under load.

Anyone help explain how I can prevent the error message on boot or why the diagnostic test would fail?

First question:  is the replacement OEM or third party?

Second question:  was it the same fan that reported failing earlier?  If so, power off, disconnect the AC adapter and remove the base cover.  Disconnect the battery from the mainboard and hold the power button for 30 seconds.

Then reconnect the battery and try powering up again.  If that doesn't clear it, and two fans have failed on the same circuit, it suggests the problem is with the mainboard sensor -- which can't be replaced short of replacing the system board.

This is a screen grab from CoreTemp as I'm typing this reply. The laptop only idling + a couple of chrome tabs. Do these temps look normal?

    Thanks for your response.

The replacement fan + heatsink is OEM.

I tried your suggestion of disconnecting the batter and holding the power button for 30 seconds but I'm afraid it made no difference.

Both fans spin happily and there was never an error message before I replaced.

I'll attach a screen grab from Core Temp to the question. Having the boot error message is a pain but I can live with it so long as CPU not running too hot

The temperatures look fine -- the other thing to check is that the connector to the fan is firmly seated and that the wire is undamaged.  If you have the original heatsink and it produces no errors, it suggests the replacement unit is faulty.
