17 R5, low performance after removing the battery

I have a two year old Alienware 17 R5 Laptop, which I had to open to remove the battery (bloated). The battery was removed and not replaced.

Now my laptop is running 100% of the time plugged in the outlet. However, the performance drastically lowered.

E.G:. When running CSGO, before removing the battery I would have a constant 300 FPS (of course with a minor variation). Now without the battery, it is varying from 90-100 FPS.

No changes in the software/hardware were made besides the removal of the battery.

How to solve this? Shouldn't it be running full performance now that its 100% of the time plugged in? Any suggestions or solutions?

My Specs:

Alienware 17 R5

Core i7 8th Generation

32 GB Ram DDR 4 2666MHZ (2x16)

256 GB SDD + 1Tb HDD

GeForce GTX 1070

    You need a working battery to get best performance, yes.  No, there's no way to deactivate Hybrid Power. The system must have a working battery to run at full performance.

    Well what adapter you have? I have the GTX 1080 and i9 config but they sent me the 240w but when I got the 330 the performance improved.

    What I'm thinking is that all Alienware laptops come with a hybrid mode which allows the laptop to be constantly providing additional power to the adapter to boost preformance but since yours is not there even with the 330w one it still is not going to perform well.

    Try going inside the bios and setting the charging mode to Express.

    Quick Tip: If your laptop has voltage / charging issues, try shutting it down, unplugging power from laptop, hold power button down for 30 seconds to do a full reset!

    Welcome to the Dell Community @Strokrot

    Hybrid Power Design:

    Under a heavy loading environment, the system may be stressed to pull more power than the designed system power profiles allow for.

    In order to accommodate the additional power needs under heavy loading, the battery will be triggered to provide additional amounts of power to the system.

    This will help explain:

    Alienware 15 R3/15 R4/17 R4/17 R5/M15/M17 performance issue or battery drain while AC adapter is connected.

    Best regards,

    U2

    NOTE:

    If it is not to expensive I would go with the [ 6-CELL “SMART” LITHIUM-ION (99 WHR) ] as a replacement.

    So, basically you are saying I have to buy a new battery to allow my laptop to run at 100% capacity/performance? Is there a way to deactivate this Hybrid Power Design feature and get this extra power from the outlet?

    Yes, I have a 240W Power Adapter.

    Switching it to a higher wattage wont fry my motherboard?

    @Strokrot

    Your system came with 180W, 240W and 330W adapters.

    https://www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/alienware-17-r5/alienware-17-r5-setupspecs/power-adapter?guid=guid-bf8d03a9-c826-41a9-8963-c9888cac0010&lang=en-us

    So you can go to a 330W with no problem.

    One question!!!

    On the bottom of the unit it should have a label with the power requirements.

    It will look like 19.5V ~ { 9.23A, 12.3A or 16.9A }

    What does yours have { 9.23A, 12.3A or 16.9A } ???

    Regards,

    U2

    @Strokrot

    Your system requires at least a 240W AC adapter.

    Volts x Amps = Watts

    19.5 x 12.3 = 239.85 " 240W "

    You could use a 330W AC.

    But as stated above you would still need a working battery and if you could afford it purchase the  [ 6-CELL “SMART” LITHIUM-ION (99 WHR) ].

    I would recommend it.

    U2

    I have an Inspiron 7559 with a standard 130W charger that has the same problem when it's without the battery, will I be able to put a 240W charger in solving the problem?
