Thanks for your reply, had already changed both battery and jack plug and was working well, sudddenly threw a wobbler and would not charge.. however after 3 days started charging again, seems to have a mind of it's own.
Assuming you mean an X14 which should be under warranty, I would contact Dell tech support. If this is an older model then basically 3 things can cause a no charge problem. A battery that has outlived it's life or is defective, a bad DC jack on the laptop, or a defective adapter. The one thing besides those 3 could be the charging circuit on the motherboard but this is a rarer cause.. If possible try another genuine Dell adapter. You can try a reset as well. Disconnect the battery and unplug the adapter. Then press and hold the power button down for 30 seconds. Then reconnect everything and try again.

Serious work on an E5430 and constantly building and working on an i5-6500 Desktop
It could be that your power adapter is on it's way out. Also, I'm assuming the new battery is an aftermarket one. The quality of these isn't as good as an OEM Dell battery but they are usually the only option after so many years. It's possible that it isn't quite working properly.
Hi @Tel welcome to this free user to user Alienware laptop discussion forum. This is not Dell Support.
Thank you for sharing that the laptop charging system has started to work.
The Alienware 14 has a number of protection systems to ensure that bad ac adapter or bad battery do not cause laptop damage.
The Dell ac adapter has an internal processor and its dc plug with its central pin wire does a handshake with the laptop charging circuit. Please check that the ac adapter's central wire is not bent, missing, etc.
When installing Dell replacement laptop dc power port, make sure it accommodates central wire connection with laptop charging circuit.
The Dell OEM battery includes diagnostic circuit that does a handshake with the laptop charging circuit. That is why many aftermarket replacement batteries fail to be charged by the laptop. Please check the white label on the OEM battery to ensure correct Dell Part Number (DP/N) and manufacture year/month date beneath square matrix is not more than six months old. If there is no battery white label return to seller, advocate use Amazon or eBay additional purchase protection. Laptop without battery is designed to function as Desktop on ac adapter power.
Dell design of their laptops have these protection systems so that the laptop continues to function.

my 2014 Alienware 14 with a gtx 765m, an i7 4710mq and 16gb ram cant detect the battery any more because the faulty charger that shipped with it killed the battery.
