M18x R1, help
Hello I just picked up my first Alienware m18x r1 for a parts price, tore it apart and cleaned it up and how I want to upgrade. I just put 32gb of ram into it and I noticed it has 2 gpu’s In it and I have had mixed results finding out if I can put 2 980m cards in it. Also I have a non SLI capable 880m and I was curious if it can run single gfx card out of SLI and if it would be better then running the 2 SLI 580m cards that are already in it? Advice anyone?

Hello,
Unfortunately the R1 cannot run the 900 series cards. The BIOS doesn't allow it as these cards have to run in UEFI mode in these laptops but the R1 BIOS only has the legacy option. For some reason the 900 series works in the older M15x laptop but not the M17x R3 or M18x R1.
You can run a single or SLI 880M though.
