Try toward the end of the document for the individual node specifics. The rule of thumb I generally use, especially with the later Avamar hardware, is to treat the hardware as you would any other 2U server, when it comes to racking, cabling and stacking. Hope this helps.
Anytime! As for the U's you'll need, here's how it breaks down:
(4) - M1200's = 8U's
(1) - Utility = 1U
(2) - Comm's = 6U's
Total U's = 15 U's
So, 16 U's of space should be fine. The 'Comm Modules' are just switches, but the way the rail units are setup it requires 3U's of space. This is because an extra 1U or 2U (I forget) is left open to cable the power back to the rear of the cabinet to your PDUs.
Also, check out support.emc.com and search for 'Avamar Procedure Generator'. Here you can download an .exe onto your local machine that will give you a ton of information of how to design and implement an Avamar grid for both a current configuration and how future expansions typically look. Check out the screenshot for an example of what's included in the procedure generator:

I do have a follow up question. If we buy 4 x G4S M1200 nodes, 1 x G4S Utility node, 2 x G4S Internal Comm Module. Do i need a total of 13 U's or 16 U's ?
I can appreciate that. Usually the sales team or partner comes up with the layout of the system. Actually the screenshot I attached earlier is a good representation of how a typical system is setup.
dynamox , you might be able to get a copy of the internal procedure generator through your account team since you're already under NDA anyway. No promises but it's worth a shot.
