Access to Control Station

Hello,

First of all may I point out that I have a storage background but not with EMC kit.

I have just started as the only techie on a site, with a Celerra NS40, and I am unable to gain access to the Control Station. It will not respond to PING and I am unable to connect via SSH, TELNET, HTTP or HTTPS.

The power cable has been disconnected and reconnected (not by me) in order to reboot the Control Station, but still no joy. I assume the next step would be to connect my laptop directly to the Control Station, but I am unsure which port I should plug into (MGMT or CS) and whether I need a regular, cross over or special EMC cable.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Kind regards

Having realised that I could plug in a monitor, keyboard and mouse, I discovered that the Control Station was stuck at:

"uncompressing linux... ok booting the kernel"

Is this terminal?, could anybody suggest how best to proceed.

    thanks

Many thanks, those links were useful.

Having followed the instructions, I have the following output from Hyperterminal

Mounting local filesystems: [ OK ]
Enabling local filesystem quotas: [ OK ]
Turning on process accounting [ OK ]
Enabling swap space: [ OK ]
    INIT: Entering runlevel: 3
    Entering non-interactive startup
Flushing all current rules and user defined chains: [ OK ]
Clearing all current rules and user defined chains: [ OK ]
    Applying iptables firewall rules:
    [ OK ]
Setting network parameters: [ OK ]
Bringing up interface lo: [ OK ]
    Bringing up interface eth0: [ OK ]
Kernel panic: NMI: Uncorrectable hardware error detected!
Kernel panic: NMI: Uncorrectable hardware error detected!

Am I correct in assuming that something has gone pop inside the Control Station. To make matters worse I dont thin the Celerra is covered by any support agreement.

If anybody could make any suggestions, I would be very greatful.

that needs to be handled by support. I would call EMC and see what they show for your Celerra's serial number. It might still be under support. Worth case scenario you can pay T&M (time and material) and get it fixed that way.
