Celerra naming rule

Hi,

I would like to know the naming rule of Celerra products, can somebody explain that? thanks. For example, what's the difference between NS121-A and NS122-A, and what's the meaning of 'A'? Thanks a lot.

    Hi,

    These are both NS120 models.

The NS121-A is a model with a single Data Mover, whilst the NS122-A has two Data Movers.

The "-A" signifies the Data Mover model type, with respect to the network IO connectivity.

A-type has 4x copper Gigabit Ethernet ports

C-type has 2x copper Gigabit Ethernet and 2x optical 10 Gigabit Ethernet.

    Regards.

Atcually what you are quoting are part numbers, not model numbers

The System model is just NS-120 or NS-120FC - whatever /nas/sbin/model says

NS-121-A is just the sales part number for the data mover (X-blade) enclosure with one data mover - not the complete system

If you are a customer - dont worry about part numbers.

If you are an EMC partner then you can see some description in Channel Express - otherwise please inquire with the Partner Help Desk

auxiliary ports, typically two per datamover for NDMP backup (this is where you connect your tape library/drives)

    Hi,

the AUX part of the box is the backend, in your case the CX4-120 that is attached to the NS part.

Actually -AUX in the context of sales part numbers it means the Clariion version that is used in NS Integrated Units - like this

NS120-AUXF8 NS-120 Captive Array, No iSCSI. 8 FC Ports 1 Two 8Gb FC SLICs per SP, 8 FC ports per system.  Factory install.  Select this array if FC or MPFS over FC is required AUGUST
