I recently installed the Unisphere Client to start managing our arrays. I noticed a link to Register Storage System. What is process/information used for? What benefit do we get for registering the system?
The register your storage system feature in unisphere and in the older tools gathers data on the array and uploads it via e-mail to EMC. This data provides EMC a point in time snapshot of the arrays hardware, firmware levels loaded, hosts connected etc. It allows EMC to be a bit more pro-active if there are known issues (like FCO's) about contacting you for fixes.
On Powerlink? Are you also referring to the "Register Your Software Sites"? If so, then this is used to make sure you can see downloads and documentation for just the products you have at your sites. I believe it also adds the arrays to your Powerlink account so you can open chats and cases against them via the web. There is probably more, but this is what I am aware of.
I found this in Unisphere Interface. To clarify a little more when I clicked the link it loaded Unisphere Service Manager. That's where I would select Register Storage System. Then a window would come up and I would fill out my information.
I'll try an upload a picture of what I'm looking at, having trouble with that at the moment.
