EqualLogic PS6000 graceful shutdown
Hi all....just joined dell tech center because we recently purchased a Dell EqualLogic PS6000E. I have it hooked up to an APC UPS (Smart UPS 2200) but I'm concerned about power loss. Is there any way to signal the PS6000 to gracefully shutdown if a power failure is detected by the UPS? Much like the powerchute software does for Windows. How do others handle this?

Currently no.
There's is no set of pre-built scripts that will shutdown the array. When FW 5.0 ships an updated Host Scripting Tool that supports Python will be released. Using a Python script you could issue the "shutdown" command to the arrays which will the cache to disk and shutdown the EQL OS. It will NOT turn off the power supplies though. You would need to do that externally.
The batteries on the controllers will last 72 hours. If you first shutdown your servers then wait before removing power from the array that will also insure there are no pending writes in the cache.
