For the Dell Venue 8 Pro 5830, the best-supported route is
Arch Linux with Plasma Mobile,
using the dedicated setup/fix repository for this exact tablet. It is a Bay Trail-T tablet with an Atom Z3740D, 2 GB RAM, eMMC storage, Atheros AR6004 Wi‑Fi, and Atheros AR3002 Bluetooth.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Arch Linux + Plasma MobileBestHas a device-specific install script and fixes; Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, battery, and stability are addressed.
Debian / UbuntuPossible, but more manualThe CPU is x86-64, but the tablet has 32-bit UEFI, so you normally need a bootloader on the EFI partition.
postmarketOSExperimentalCan be installed via pmbootstrap, but the documentation says not everything works well; power button, rotation, and cameras may remain problematic.
ChromeOS FlexNot idealCommunity reports say it can run, but integrated Wi‑Fi was not working at the time of that report.
Hi
Dunno.
I generally go for the best Linux to suit me.
So I try some LIVE versions first, so that it is immediately apparent that it will boot, and then test the functions for the hardware.
If it boots, and the hardware works, do I like the look of it and sufficient software works for my daily needs/wants.
THEN install it.
Consider....
Debian
Linux Mint
Zorin
as front runners, with Ubuntu as a safe second string.
https://distrowatch.com/
Has a 100 listed distro's, so summat will suit I'm sure.
All the good ones have a support web-site.
If in doubt please ask.
