Alienware Digital Audio
Hi, I have an Mx18R2 and have Recently purchased a new headset.
The laptop has a SPDIF digital output via a 3.5mm Jack, but my headset only has an optical cable for the Digital Audio.
will a 3.5mm to Optical Converter plug give me proper digital signal, or am i going to need an external sound card with an Optical Output?

That adapter was never tested by Dell. Hopefully another user who has tried it can chime in.
