8300 vs 4600
In the case of video editing and general use,
is the 8300 with HT disabled comparable in speed and ability to the 4600 with the same amount of memory and hard drive size in each? Any comments re the preferable machine given only $150 price difference?

After reading other threads I got the impression that some were not so happy with the results of Hyper-Threading, that it was a gimmick and overrated. I was nervous about making the decision between these two as my prime interest is home video work on a small scale.
Never the less I decided to order the 8300, I hope I do not regret this decision, he he.

From what I understand if you configure a 4600 and 8300 the exact same way there is no noticeable performance difference. The difference at this point becomes expandibility. The 8300 case is larger than the 4600 and has more PCI slots. For me, the only extra PCI card I needed in the system was an Audigy, so I went with the smaller case (4600) and saved myself a few hundred which I plan to use on another 1GB RAM.

Thanks for the input, I thought along the same lines.
The case size certainly influenced my decision also but I opted for the larger case, partly to do with expandability but I also feel that cooling issues may be easier to deal with in the large case design. I hope the extra $$$ are justified.
Good luck with your 4600!!
