Blank screen

WheneverI start my computer, the screen goes blank. It's not the blinking kind, either. It just goes blank after a second or two, although the power light thing on the screen still says that it's (the screen) is on. If I turn it off and on, the screen stays on for a second, then turns off. What's going on? I didn't do anything to make this happen, I think. I just got home and turned on the computer, and this randomly happened. (I'm typing from my friend's laptop)

My computer is... (I'm not really familiar with computers) Dimension 4600, if that's any help. >_> Is it a problem with my screen? Because everything else works perfectly fine.

Help, please.

Well, it's either a problem with the monitor or the computer. So the usual method of troubleshooting would be to try another monitor. If you don't have one, you might want to try a local shop.

I, too, have been having a problem recently with the monitor screen "whiting out".  It comes and goes and may last anywhere from 30 seconds to 45 minutes.  All I can do is wait for it to come back on its own, which, so far, it does.  Checkd through the self test, which Dell sent me but that proves ok.  This is in the Dimension 4600 series.  Any clues out there ???
