UNSOLVED
help needed: format and no sound.
Right my computer: A dell dimension 4700 was lagging so i decided to format it. Everything went well, the dell cd provided the basic tools for a format such as the graphic drivers, the modem drivers, etc... HOWEVER although i installed all the required drivers i still find myself with no sound whatsoever.
I installed the reccomended drivers for the "SoundMax Intergrated digital audio", the updated drivers, and still nothing comes out of my speakers. When i go to device manager there is always a big yellow exclamation mark next to an UNKNOWN DEVICE sign which i KNOW is my sound card. This is proving to be quite the nightmare as further down in device manager the driver is actualy recognised and "is working properly"!!!
BEFORE you ask me whether the power is on or the cables are connected the answer is yes they are. I really dont know what the problem is, i used all the HELP and support centers i could find but with no success.
any advice, help, magic would be greatly appreciated!
cheers,
drowzyus

- As i mentioned in the previous post i installed ALL the drivers. So from chipset driver to the audio driver. Since i noticed that it was suggested to install the chipset driver first i did so but alas i still have no sound.
When i ran a diagnostic with the dell cd i get this error report when reaching the sound test:
ERROR 1B22:071b
1b22:061B
1B22:0F1B
1B22:101B
any help is greatly appreciated.

dorwzyus - A previously posted i intstalled the updated audio driver and still have no sound.
I went on the BIOS to see whether the sound was turned off but to my great dissapointment it was on. This means that im really running out of ideas.
The sound was working fine before the format so i dont understand why it wouldnt be working now. Its quite infuriating to be honest.
thanks alot to the people that have tried to help so far, im still working on it from my end and all the comments have been appreciated.
cheers,
drowzy
