Hi I have a Dell optiplex gx620 with 200gb hdd, 2 gb ram, and Pentium D 2.8 dual core. I have been getting a message saying that I may be a victim of software counterfeiting and its getting annoying seeing it and having it take off my background. I have windows xp pro and i bought the computer refurbished from a local store. I have searched up how to fix it and found some solutions but they just seem to be tricking the system into thinking that its genuine by removing some .wmg? I Really dont know what that means lol. If it is genuine i wouldnt know since i guess people who personnally bought the software themselves and installed it have been getting the same problem. My question is what are the chances of it being a legit version and if theres a way i can check that way i can call Dell ( one of the solutions i found). Also will my current hardtware run windows 7 smoothly? I would really like to get the 64 bit version since it seems to be preffered by users over the 32 bit. I know i can upgrade the ram to 4 gb, and also the hdd to meet the minimum requirements but how about the cpu? Is the pentium d i have good enough to run the 64 bit version well. Thanks for the reply :). Yes that is the message ive been getting and if theres away i can fix it ill probably just will stick with xp pro. I use my computer for basic stuff. Mostly research for school and typing up papers using office word, updating my iphone with itunes, youtube etc. I dont run any major software and dont use it for gaming. The guy at the shop told me xp pro being that its not the up to date brand new software thats out right now that it still works great and so far i havnt had any thing to complain about. Also other than the better looking desktop screen for what im currently using my computer for will i see any advantages by upgrading to windows 7? I just checked the advisor and it says my hardware is compatible.
Did you buy your PC from Dell directly? What you should do is check your order or packing slip to see what came preinstalled.

Unfortunately he did not. The only way out is to use backup software, but this could be a headache, and he stated that he is not good with PCs, hm.:emotion-16:

Hi FTLDee,
Good news, your copy of Windows XP is definitely good. You'll know because there is a sticker on the side of your computer with the license on it. However, it seems you are getting that olde error, "This copy of Windows is not Genuine". Am I correct?
If you want to consider upgrading to Windows 7, please Google the Windows Upgrade Advisor, which will evaluate all of your hardware and software and tell you if your system meets the requirements.
