Microsoft optical mouse problem

Hi,

I got a Dell optical wheel mouse with my Dimension 9150 but want to replace it with my Microsoft optical mouse from my old PC because it looks and feels nicer :smileyhappy:

The new one was not picked up by my computer until I switched it to another USB port but the computer is not picking up the Intellipoint software that I installed with the Microsoft mouse. I suspect I have to uninstall the Dell mouse software before the PC can pick up the new one but I can't see any such option in Add/Remove programs.

Any ideas? I'm on XP.

Many thanks.

Typically, XP shouldl pickup the mouse without a problem. Unless you like the fancy features, I would not bother with loading the MS software.  You can try to remove the mouse under Device Manager. Shutdown the computer, plug in the MS mouse and startup. The system should detect the MS mouse.

Thanks for your quick reply - much appreciated.

You are probably right, the MS mouse is working and that's the main thing for me. What I can't understand is why it would not work when connected through the USB port that the Dell mouse was connected to but subsequently worked on two other USB ports.

    Thanks again.
