MSINFO32.CNT
I installed Microsoft Picture IT and then HP cd writer series 8200(external). We also installed software for a Wingman Formula GP steering wheel. Since then when I turn the computer on it sits on the Dell screen for a VERY long time before bringing up the Windows desktop. Then on the desktop an "Open with" window pops up. It wants me to Click the program you want to use to open the file MSINFO32.CNT. Why is this happening and how can I speed things up to like they used to be? I have 21.3GB free space on my harddrive and plenty of memory.

For your problem with the MSINFO32.CNT file. Do a find file to locate where this file is located on your system. It should be in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MSINFO (or MsInfoRf & there can be more than one copy). More than likely it was placed in another location and needs to be relocated to the above. This can happen if you fail to close down your AntiVirus software before installing many of the Microsoft programs. FYI this file is a Windows System content file for the help index and other purposes and needs to be installed for your help files to work properly.
It is critical to end task on all programs, AntiVirus by Right Clicking the Systray icon and exiting, and the rest by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Delete and using the close program screen. You should have only Explorer & Systray left in the list and then close the screen by clicking cancel.
As for the slow bootup. This is being caused by the HP CDRW that you installed. If this is causing a very long bootup hang--five minutes or more--I would recommend Uninstalling and Reinstalling the drive following their instructions EXACTLY including closing all running programs. If it seems to hang for 30 to 60 seconds, then that is normal.
