Optiplex 755 SM Bus Controller
After a reinstall of Windows Vista 32 bit, I have everything on the device list working with the exception of the SM Bus controller. I have allowed the computer to update itself to SP2 plus all other important and recommended updates. I have reinstalled the chipset driver after SP2. The SM Bus Controller still shows inop.
What am I missing?

All I can say is "you are a genius". I was about to pull my hair out.
Everything on the device list is now working as intended.

Hi Mike,
This seems to be chipset driver not installed correctly. I would suggest you to run the Intel driver utility on the system using the link below and update the drivers applicable.
