Optiplex 9020 usb issue

Have a Optiplex 9020. Every other time usb mouse and usb keyboard, does not work when PC is started up, and I have to power off. It works fine when started up in protected mode.

Using Windows 7.

Tried:  using another usb-port, another mouse, another keyboard,

installed: Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver_3.0.5.69,

Used an earlier restore-point.

All without success.

Any suggestions?

Pls. help

    Hi,

Can you confirm if the device gets detected as soon you plug it in?

Is it the same when you plug a USB Hard drive or a memory key?

Does it make any sound when you plug in these devices?

    Thank you

USB based malware will prevent windows installer from running and or Antivirus services from starting.  This will also keep usb devices from working.  There is nothing wrong with the hardware if they work in safe mode. and the bios setup screens.

    Thank you for your reply.

If Windows are startet in "protected mode”, mouse and keyboard are working fine.

During normal pc startup, keyboard and mouse will "light-up" briefly, but lights will disapear again.

If mouse and keyboard are removed before start-up, and inserted after windows has started, they will be detected and work just fine. Memory sticks and other usb items all work fine, but only if inserted after Windows startup.

It must be something in Windows startup that kills the usb?

    Hope you can help.

    Kind regards

    Thanks for the reply

The error has been there almost from day one. Not at every start-up in the beginning, but now it is happening more and more often.

If all usb items are unpluged before Windows start-up - and pluged in again after Windows start-up - everything works fine.

Antivirus software are running just fine - using Microsoft Security Essentials real time, an every now and then scanning with Ad-aware for "bad stuff".
