It would help if you posted the model # of the desktop and the monitor.

Thanks for your response.....the Dimension is an L700CX......I've tried hitting the windows key and then enter, but nothing happens....the keyboard is not responding either........can you  help????

I am having the same problem...

Dimension 5100c Win XP Home...

The monitor indicates the computer is in power  save mode and to move mouse or tap any key on keyboard to return to windows...

This is my brother-in- laws computer...He said everything was fine...he was cleaning and accidently shut off surge protector..everything started up fine on reboot...when he returned later that night...monitor shows computer is in power save mode...I have tried most of the obvious...I cannot get it out of this scurrent state....Somebody have an answer?

I have a Dell Dimension XPC R450 & a Dell P991 19" Trinitron, nVIDIA GeForce2 MX440, WinXP Pro and it does the same! More than often when I leave it on overnight or sometimes for more than 1 hr so it goes into power save mode I cant get it back to the desktop! It is really irritating I have to reboot all the time & before my old XP install got corrupted due to constant reboots (usually 2-4 a day).
I leave my PC on 24/7 as I use BT, it has an option for 'Prevent PC from entering standby mode' in BitComet but this obviously doesnt have no effect. I will try and turn off the monitor power management and see if that helps, before I did this and the monitor would show the desktop but had already crashed but I havent tried it with my new install.

I believe the problem is probably the monitor power management? but Dell has not provided a fix for CRTs. I wonder if this problem is just with nVIDIA cards or with any?

Since these sound like monitor issues, you should try posting in the monitor forum.

I have been having this problem as well.  I have a Dimension 8200 and I have done the diagnostic check which indicates that I have a graphic card problem.  I reseated the card ...no change.  I purchased a new card and replaced and the computer does nothing  when turning it on....Can anyone help?

Just a quick update to say I turned off 'Standby' in the Power Settings in Control Panel with the monitor still on energy save at 20m and I am not experiencing the same problems!
OK the PC is eating full juice and its probably not 100% energy saving but at least it works (and I only pay £15pm for unlimited electriciy!) so its not much of an issue! :-)
