Quiet down youre Dell
This may help some of you with fan noise problems. I have a 8250 with 3.06 and the fan noise was very loud. I pulled the heatsink off the cpu and cleaned the thermal compound off both the heatsink and cpu. Bought myself some Artctic Silver #5..rubbed a small amount on the heatsink (very small amount). Then put a dot bout the size of 3/4's of a BB on the chip. This has prevented the fan from wanting to go into high speed mode all the time. Made a big difference, I was very pleased with the results. You may want to try this.

From what I have heard when you load the cpu and it gets hotter the cpu sensor speeds up the fan thats inside the green shroud. Thats the one that makes the noise. So by making the heatsink more efficient at pulling heat off the cpu the cpu temp drops. As long as it never gets to the point where the fan kicks in to high gear..it stays quiet. I was very impressed. Even running Mad Onion it never got loud on me. And it really used to start blowing. Give it a try
- Dell usually uses a thermostat built into the fan to controll the speed. This runs strictly off the temp of the air flowing thru the fan. The more heat transferred by the heatsink, the more likely your fan will speed up. With the design Dell uses the case air is pulled across the heatsink and exhausted. Reducing your case temps reduces the temp of the air going to the heatsink and will cool better. Exhausting the heat from the video card should help lower your cpu temps.

the whole point of using a good thermal compound and a good heatsink is to tranfer the heat away from the CPU and out of the case. If you have even halfway decent airflow in your case then applying AS5 will most likely lower your case temps too. I've never heard of case temps increasing as CPU temps go down.- The way the Dells are setup all the Cpu heat is exhausted thru the rear fan so it shouldn't raise the case temps vs a active heatsink that blows the air thru the heatsink and back into the case. When the Dell heatsink releases more heat because of better heat transfer with the AS, the air going thru the fan is hotter and is more likely to increase the fan speed.
