Standby mode

Opps! I had this message appear on boot:
"Your system has failed to enter standby mode the last few times it has tried. Would you like to prevent the system from entering standby mode in the future? Yes or No."
So, like a dummy, I said yes. Now when I go to the Power Management screen, through the Control Panel, the middle section (for standby mode) is greyed out. Can anyone help me turn this feature back on?

I have a XPS T700r computer with Windows 98se.

Thanks,
Rick

    rickdee;

    That might be one of the best things that could happen to you. You don't want a desktop PC using Standby mode. It was made for laptops/battery powered stuff, and just does NOT work on desktops. Instead, just have your monitor and HD turn off at a selected interval, and stick with that. You'll be much better off in the long run.

    Good luck!

    Goonboy, thanks for the fast reply. You're probably right about standby mode on a desktop. However, I am kind of a stickler when it comes to having things the way they should be. So if you, or anyone else, could help me restore the standby option, it would be greatly appreciated.

    rick;

    I could be wrong, but I believe that this post of Denny Denham's applies to your situation as well. If I am wrong, I imagine the stampede to correct me will beat this post to the boards.

    I'm not sure that what's Right is always what's Good.

    By any chance, is AOL your ISP?

    Goonboy,
    Thanks for the info. I will work on it first chance I get. Seems like a lot of work for nothing, but I am a stickler on what's right is right.
