600m ac adapter issues

I bought my 600m little over 5 months ago and have recently been getting the error message that I had the wrong AC power adapter, but after resetting the adapter the message would go away and all would be well.  Yesterday i unplugged my machine from the AC adapter so i could work in the other room and upon plugging my 600m back in to the adapter 45 minutes later my computer did not even recognize it, no error message, no rechargeing the battery and no running off ac power.  I chatted with tech support for an hour and at the end it came down to pulling the hard drive, ram, and the cd drive then trying the ac adapter, as i was doing this chat was ended because i hadent responded in awhile.  The ac adapter still did not work so I put my laptop back together, but after trying to boot up on the little battery power i had left i now got an error that it couldnt find my hard drive.  The computer worked fine on battery before tech support told me to take it apart, now i cant even save the files I need!!!  Anyone have any ideas what this problem could be or how to fix it, im sure you guys will be more help then dells outsourced, semi-english speaking, indian tech support.

Thanks

Most likely, the system board will need replacement - if it's under warranty, call Dell. If it's out of warranty and the system is a couple of years old, the cost of the part ($500 or so) may give you pause.
