Background noise Precision M4300

I just got my new m3400 today and when i plugged in my headphones i noticed a quite annoying background noise. Turning sound off doesnt make it go away. Unplugging the power cable reduces the noise but doesnt eliminate it. I'm running Vista and read a bunch of other threads here about noise problems, but turning off wifi etc doesnt work for me. Any other tips?

something else is also going on, system sounds are choppy and music playback is "wavy"...

It seems like Vista was wrong when it "determined that i had the latest driver", upgrading to 6.10.0.5614 solved the playback problem. But the hissing sound is still there in the background...

A lot of Dell laptops seem to produce an annoying background noise, and I'm starting to think it's a serious hardware problem.
One thing you could try, is disabling the modem sound in the control panel, but that didn't work for me :(

yeah i'm beginning to feel a little dejected... it seems like we are plenty who share the problem but nobody has come up with a final solution. turning off modem sound didn't help me either...

In regards to the background noise, does it increase or decrease depending on whether you are on AC or battery?

Hello, it definitely decreases, but doesn't go away completely, when i unplug the AC and run the computer on battery.

    harshars:

I haven't heard any reports of audio issues on the M4300. I'm not able to pull up your Service Tag information as it appears to be outside of the United States.

As the system is new, have you contacted Dell Technical Support to troubleshoot? If so, what did they say?
