- hi i'm from srilanka. i have a dell latitude d505. my battery doesn't get fully charged since a month. It charges upto 99% and keeps chaging. what can i do? it's been just five months sonce i bpught this machine. will this problem decrease my battery life?
- Check your battery for overheating, it may be a sign of need for new battery or a problem with
charging circuts.
If battery is overheating, remove it.
If not, just see if service time is getting too short for your needs and expect to replace
battery if it is not providing a long enough 'run-time'. - If it is overheating, you should remove the AC Power or remove the battery.
Then you can see if your system will run for an acceptable period of time on
that battery.
If it does, then you could reconnect and charge, if it then does not
overheat for normal recharge time period, I would think that there is
a problem with your charging circuts.
If (more likely) it does NOT provide a useful operating time, replace
the battery.
Do not try 'extra cooling' for an overheating battery, stop the charging. - As long as it is not overheating, it is not overcharging. It would be the heat that would damage your battery
and could damage your system.
If you want to remove the battery to prevent charging, it would be best to be connected to a UPS to prevent
system damage from voltage spikes or power interuptions.
I do not know any setting to disable battery charging but, on a D800, if you try to use a "Non Dell Approved"
Power Supply, then the system disables battery charging and runs CPU at 33% of normal speed.

The flashing LEDs mean that one or more cells inside is faulty.
Since faulty cells can lead to battery overheating, you may want to be careful with charging - if the battery and/or AC adapter heats up appreciably, replace the battery.
