blank screen

My Inspiron 6000 has a blank screen.  It appears to be powering up, but nothing appears on the screen.  It is kind of just a blue screen.  Help.

Do you have an external monitor that you could attach to the back of the notebook.  If you do, attach it and see if you get the same display.  If you do, it is a problem the video card.  If you don't get it on the external monitor, then it may be the video card.

The video cable could also be loose.  Check your service manual to see where this is.  If you do not have a manual, go to the bottom of the left column and select manual and then navigate to your system.

Did this happen all of a sudden or did it happen all at once?

It happened very suddenly.  I have never had trouble before this with my laptop.  I attached an external monitor and it seems to work fine.  What do you suggest now?

Reseat the video ribbon cable that runs between the system board and panel.

If that doesn't work and you're under warranty, call Dell for a new screen.

If you're out of warranty, contact an LCD repair specialist.
