Yes, I tried but when I right click on the "USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller - 24CD" as instructed I do not get an option to disable the driver, only Update and Uninstall show up. If I right click on other USB drivers I do get a disable option.

I too am awaiting the new USB driver.  My mouse has suffered the same hangups described in postings related in other forums such as port replicators, input/pointing devices, etc.  I've tried downloading and installing the latest drivers for the touchpad, Dell Utilities Software and other more ambiguous products.  No luck.  Before reading that a new USB driver was in the works, I guessed that the problem was with my older USB 1.1 mouse (not XP certified), the laptop's controller, or something with the laptop's power subsystems.  I bought a new mouse but that didn't solve the problem.  Both old and new mouse still hangs up whether using the USB or PS/2 connection.

Have you tried the suggested fix of disabling USB 2.0 in the Device Manager?

 

If it helps a new version of the notebook system software was just posted today for the D600, it lists the USB driver as being the main update for both Windows 2000 and Windows XP.  I just finished downloading it but havent installed it yet.

The USB update in the notebook system software was a fix related to problem of Dell Axim and other USB devices after power recycle.
Looks like it's not related to Dell's D/Port USB problem.

Is this the same issue I have on my D600????

 

XP keeps telling me that my "USB device is not recognized"???  

 

this is really annoying, and as we roll out these D600's, users are complaining..........

I finally had a chance to apply the update referenced earier. It did not affect the symptoms I have been having.

I have now been running symptom-free for two weeks...sounds like I've been experiencing a disease or something.  I installed the utility update and applied other tweakings but I believe the cure came with the purchase of a new mouse.  Its an XP certified mouse connected through the PS/2 port on the port replicator.

No delays, hangups, or power fluctuations evidenced on the mouse or keyboard.  I suspect the USB port problems are still there and I've only succeeded in avoiding them, but I can concentrate on getting my work done.
